I will have several posts soon about progress being made on the house, but first let me begin with some news about a project we’ve actually finished. We finally got the front door replaced! I cannot tell you how exciting this was. The old door was truly ugly, originally a plain wooden slab painted a gray-green color, but then later got some “embellishments” in the form of wood planks nailed on for texture and covered in extra aluminum from the siding. That might not have been so bad, if they hadn’t apparently run out of aluminum and wood, resulting in a weird raised boxy area in the middle of the door that had two uneven sides that petered out at the bottom at different lengths and no connecting bottom piece.
And despite all that, it wasn’t even the ugliness that really made me desperately want it replaced; it was the fact that the frame had become so warped it could barely be made to open and shut anymore. It got to the point where I couldn’t even lock or unlock it if I was trying to carry anything else, because I needed both hands and all my bodyweight to haul the door closed enough in the frame to get the lock to engage. And then to open it, I had to throw my whole side into it to unstick the bottom corner of the door from where it would wedge onto the threshold.
So we got a new door. We went to Lowe’s and picked out the new door, put it in the back of the van, and took it home. The handyman guy who came to install it ripped everything out and started from scratch, and the result is a fantastically hung door that opens and closes smoothly and freely. You cannot imagine how awesome this is, after months of having to bruise myself to get into the house. Plus, I got to repaint it.
Just look for the house with the purple door.

That is truly a statement…I like it. You HAVE to be happy when you come home and encounter a purple door like that.
I love the purple door! Would love to see another pic of the whole front to appreciate the effect.
Mark was good with purple?
Yup, Mark was good with purple. He actually likes it a lot for the door.
I’ll work on getting up more pictures of the house soon. I still haven’t painted the trim around the door frame, so I was kind of holding off until then. Clearly, I have not been in a huge hurry.
